Newport Scenic Route Paper offers a richness of colour that brings your layouts to life. In this layout I have used three Scenic Route papers from the Newport collection, but you could easily re-create this design with any of your favourite papers.

Click Here To View Scenic Route Papers

It’s no secret that I am a fan of linear layouts (just look through the scrapbooking ideas here and you will soon notice a trend). I love the clean lines and balance achieved in linear designs. However, I also love the sophistication and elegance of scrolls and flourishes. This layout is intended to be an introduction to the use of scrolls on your scrapbooking pages. The design is still a strong linear onee but I have used two large scrolls to soften it and give it a sense of flow. If you want to try using scrolls on your layouts but aren’t sure what to do, this is a great idea to start with.

This layout was created using Scenic Route Newport White Script paper, Scenic Route Newport Jade Big Dots paper, Scenic Route Newport Chestnut Dots paper, white cardstock and dark brown ink.

Click Here To View Scenic Route Papers

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the Scenic Route Newport Jade Big Dots paper as your background. Ink around the edges with dark brown ink and set aside to dry.

2. Cut a strip from the underside of Newport White Script paper approximately 4.5cm wide. Make sure your stripes are horizontal. Ink the edges with dark brown ink. When dry, glue this piece of Scenic Route paper down the right side of your page.

3. Cut a piece of Newport White Script paper measuring approximately 22cm by 26.5cm, making sure the script is horizontal. Ink the edges with dark brown ink. When dry, adhere it to your background approximately 2cm from the top and up against your striped paper from the previous step.

4. Cut a thin strip of Newport Jade Big Dots Paper. Make it the width of one row of dots. Adhere down your page so that it covers where your striped paper meets your script paper.

5. Thinly mat your horizontal photos with white cardstock and arrange on top of the script paper as shown above.

6. Now it’s time to create your scrolls. You can use pre-made scrolls or use a template to cut out your own. Or, if you would like to dabble in a little doodling, you can draw your own. I drew my own using the underside of the Newport White Script paper. Once I had drawn the first one, I cut it out, flipped it over and used it as the template for the other.

7. Ink the edges of both scrolls with dark brown ink and when dry, glue one in the top left corner and the other in the bottom left corner, as shown in the scrapbooking layout above.

What do you think? Do you like this scrapbooking idea using Scenic Route paper? Do you have any questions? Would you have done anything different? We’d love to hear from you! Please leave a comment below.

Simplicity is the key to quick scrapbooking ideas. By minimising the number of supplies you are using and sticking to a straight-lined balanced page it is very easy to create a sophisticated layout in a short amount of time. Here is an example of a scrapbooking layout you can put together yourself in under half an hour.

This layout was created using Scenic Route Charlotte Hill Stripe Paper, Scenic Route Charlotte Brown Floral Paper, three shades of brown cardstock, brown ink and small brown alphabet stickers.

Click Here To View Scenic Route Charlotte Hill Stripe Paper
Click Here To View Scenic Route Charlotte Brown Floral Paper

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the underside of the Scenic Route Charlotte Hill Stripe Paper as your background.

2. Take your darkest shade of brown cardstock and adhere a vertical 5×7 photo in the top right rand corner leaving a border of at least 3mm around it. Adhere a vertical, smaller photo directly beneath it on the right side, as shown in the layout above.

3. Cut out a rectangle around your photos, as shown in the layout above. The border around the photos should be at least 3mm.

4. Adhere your rectangle vertically towards the right side of your page.

5. Cut out a rectangle of your lightest shade of brown cardstock to fit in the bottom left corner of your rectangle. Make sure it is not too high as you have to fit other pieces above it. Add your journaling and adhere in position.

6. Cut out five rectangles measuring approximately 3cm by 5cm from your middle shade of brown cardstock. Cut the shape of a letter out of the middle of each one to make the large word of your title. You may wish to position your letters towards the bottom of each rectangle rather than in the middle, as shown in the layout above. To draw your letters, try using a template or printing them from your computer.

7. Place your lightest shade of brown cardstock behind each rectangle from the previous step so the colour comes through the letters you have cut out.

8. Adhere your title across your page underneath your large photo, as shown in the layout above. Use small brown alphabet stickers to add other words to your title (for example, I have added the word ‘The’ above my large letters).

9. Measure the gap between the bottom of your large photo and the top of your journaling piece (mine was 3.2cm). Subtract around 6mm from this measurement (gives me 2.6cm). Now measure the length your large letters have taken (mine was 16.7cm). You now have the dimensions for the strip of Scenic Route Charlotte Brown Floral Paper that you need to cut. Once you have cut it out, ink the edges with brown ink and adhere directly underneath your large letters.

Flowers make a great embellishment for just about any layout. It doesn’t really matter what type of flowers you use. Paper flowers, stickers, stamps, rub-ons, overlays – they are all good. But I must admit, I really enjoy cutting out flowers from different patterned papers. It gives me the chance to play with lots of different colours and styles without much expense. So, when I saw this green floral Scenic Route paper, I knew I was going to have some fun!

This layout was created using Scenic Route Sentimental White Daisy paper, Scenic Route Sentimental Dots paper, Scenic Route Hampton Belwood Floral paper, Scenic Route Capetown Devonport paper, light brown cardstock, brown ribbon, a black pen and Cloud 9 Sorbet Flowers Glitter Rub-Ons.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the underside of the Scenic Route Sentimental White Daisy paper as your background.

2. Cut a strip of Scenic Route Sentimental Dots paper approximately 4cm tall. Glue horizontally along the top of your page.

3. Cut a strip of brown ribbon approximately 32cm long. Glue horizontally to your page so that it covers the line where your sentimental dots paper meets the red dots paper.

4. Cut another strip of Scenic Route Sentimental Dots paper approximately 4cm tall. Glue horizontally along the bottom of your page.

5. Cut a second strip of brown ribbon approximately 32cm long. Again, glue horizontally to your page so that it covers the line where your second sentimental dots paper meets the red dots paper.

6. Mat two 4×6 photos and two 3×4 photos with light brown cardstock. Arrange on your page as shown above and glue down.

7. Cut out a collection of flower shapes from Scenic Route Hampton Belwood Floral paper. Remember, you only need one complete flower – the rest can be incomplete. Glue your complete flower in the bottom right corner of your page so that it slightly overlaps your photos. Glue the rest around the edges of your page, as shown above.

8. Use the grid paper on the underside of Scenic Route Capetown Devonport paper to create your title. For each word of your title, count the number of letters. Then, cut out a piece of grid paper with that many squares in a row. For example, the first word of my title is ‘looking.’ It has seven letters so I cut out a piece with seven squares. Use a black pen to write in your title – one letter per square. Glue your title in and around your photos. Your exact placement will depend on how long your title is and what looks good.

9. Finally, place an orange circular rub-on from Cloud 9 Sorbet Flowers Glitter Rub-Ons in the centre of your complete flower.

What do you think? Do you like this scrapbooking idea? Do you have any questions? Would you have done anything different? We’d love to hear from you! Please leave a comment below.
