Now that the kids are back at school, it’s a great time to catch up on scrapbooking those wonderful summer memories. And since trips to the beach are almost an essential part of an Australian summer, I thought I would start with a fun beach scrapbooking idea.

For ideas, I turned to our amazing range of beach and summer scrapbooking stickers where you’ll find everything from sandcastles to shells, fish, seahorses and more.

Click Here To View Our Full Range Of Beach Stickers

The stickers I chose to use were the Doodlebug Day At The Beach stickers:

Materials Used: It Takes Two Orange fibre paper for the background, Paper Garden Baby Wide Lines paper, blue cardstock, yellow cardstock and Doodlebug Day at the Beach stickers.

I fell in love with the Doodlebug Day at the Beach stickers the moment I saw them. The colours are just gorgeous. But, I wasn’t too keen on the design of the border sticker. The arrangement of the different elements just didn’t sit right with me for some reason. So, rather than wasting it, I transformed it into a new border of my own design. Just because a sticker is made one way, it doesn’t mean you have to keep it that way!

To create my own border to go down the left side of the left page, I first cut out the tag elements from the border sticker and set them aside. I then tore a strip of blue paper and a strip of green paper (I used Paper Garden Baby Wide Lines Paper for this, but you could use any blue and green cardstock). I made sure both edges of each strip were torn as this gives the best effect. I then glued them down the left side of the left page and arranged the tag stickers on top.

Now I have a unique border that transformed something I didn’t like into something I love!

Creating the rest of this beach scrapbooking layout is easy!

I decided I didn’t want a second border on the right page, but I needed something to balance the border on the left page. So, I tore another smaller strip of blue paper and another strip of green paper (both were about 12cm long and torn along both long edges).

I placed the blue strip in the top right-hand corner of the right page, about 2cm from the top edge and right up against the side edge. I then positioned the three Sun, Sea and Sand stickers on top.

I placed the green strip in the bottom left-hand corner of the right page to mirror the blue strip. In other words, it is about 2cm from the bottom and up against the left edge of the page. I decorated this strip with the ‘Sea’ stickers.

The blue and green strips on the right side of the layout balance each other and together provide balance for the border on the left page of your layout. This helps create a visually pleasing effect overall.

But, the page is not finished yet! Next, the photos have to be matted and arranged on the layout. I placed two photos on each page, again to provide balance. I also placed a piece of blue cardstock horizontally behind my first photo. This was to enhance the photo and help it stand out from the others. It also creates a nice little area to add a bit of journaling.

Finally, I added my remaining beach stickers and voila! A bright beach scrapbooking layout to record some of your precious summer memories. And all it took was a cute sheet of beach stickers and a little bit of time!

Sticko stickers remain a favourite amongst scrapbookers all over the world, and their new line of puffy stickers is no different. Their miniature designs make them so cute and their puffy nature really make them pop and give dimension to your scrapbooking pages and cards.

Click Here To View Our Full Range Of Sticko Stickers

There’s lots of different designs to choose from to give your pages that special touch and there are so many different ways to scrap with them.

One page I absolutely love, is this layout that I found on Sticko’s official website:

Artist: Nicole Ratzlaff

This layout uses Puffy Fish stickers to create a unique border down the ride side of the page. The artist has used a simple strip of green cardstock as the base for her border, punched holes in it to create a bubble effect and strategically placed fish stickers all the way down for a completely unique look.

She’s also very cleverly incorporated several fish stickers into her title, again creating a one-of-a-kind embellishment for her page.

Of course, you don’t have to use only fish stickers to re-create this effect. Any small stickers will do. Just choose the theme you want to work with and have some fun.

The tropical icons like palm trees and hibiscus flowers that feature on these stickers are matched with distinctive, bright colours for a stylish and unique look. Perfect for photos from our honeymoon in Tahiti!

Materials Used: Basic Grey Sultry Friar paper, Autumn Leaves Striped paper, Creative Imaginations Unit 22 paper, Bo Bunny Mango Luau Coconut paper, brown Bazzill cardstock, light brown cardstock, brown ink, Pink Paislee Captivating Alphabet stickers, Pink Paislee Enchanting Alphabet stickers, K&Company Brown Dots Alphabet stickers and Moxxie Paradise Found stickers.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the Basic Grey Sultry Friar paper as your background.

2. Cut a strip of Autumn Leaves Striped paper 6cm wide. Ink the edges with brown ink. When dry, glue down the left side of your page approximately 1.3cm from the left edge.

3. Cut a piece of Creative Imaginations Unit 22 paper measuring 20cm by 14cm. Ink the edges with brown ink. When dry, glue to your page approximately 5cm from the left edge and 8cm from the top edge.

4. Place your palm tree sticker from Moxxie Paradise Found stickers towards the top right corner of your Unit 22 paper from step #3. Keep in mind where your photo will eventually go. Please refer to the picture above for exact placement.

5. Cut a piece of Bo Bunny Mango Luau Coconut paper measuring 23.5cm by 6.2cm. Ink the edges with brown ink. When dry, glue across your page approximately 3.8cm from the left edge and 3.5cm from the bottom edge.

6. Cut a piece from the underside of Bo Bunny Mango Luau Coconut paper measuring 5cm by 6cm. Ink the edges with brown ink. When dry, glue to your page approximately 2.5cm from the left edge and 8.6cm from the bottom edge.

7. Mat a horizontal 4×6 photo with light brown cardstock. Glue to your page approximately 7.2cm from the left edge and 7.6cm from the bottom edge.

8. Cut a strip of brown Bazzill cardstock measuring approximately 21cm by 1cm. Glue across your page approximately 3.2cm from the left edge and 5.3cm from the bottom edge.

9. Cut two of the hibiscus flowers away from your border sticker to make it a little shorter. Stick the remaining flowers down your page. It should follow the line of the right side of your Autumn Leaves striped paper, as shown above. It will also cover the left edge of your photo.

10. Decide on your title (in my case, my title is Our Own Little Island). Use dark brown alphabet stickers to write the last word of your title on the Unit 22 paper remaining above your photo.

11. Finish off your title using orange and green alphabet stickers above your Unit 22 paper as shown above.

12. Finally, arrange two leaf stickers and a hibiscus sticker towards the bottom right corner of your layout, as shown in the layout above.

And you’re done! You now have a bold and very distinct layout to add to your scrapbooking album. This design could easily be adapted to suit any beach photos or photos from holidays in tropical destinations like Tahiti, Fiji, Hawaii or Bali.

Bright, happy colours, a touch of doodling and a splash of sunshine are the perfect ingredients for a refreshing summer scrapbooking layout.

And I have used all of these elements in the layout below. The bright, happy colours are featured in the array of playful Sassafras Lass papers, the doodling in the pink dots drawn around the circle and the sunshine from the joy on the faces in the photo. True, I have also used a sunshine sticker, but this could easily have been replaced with any summery sticker – flip flops, a tropical flower, a beach ball…anything you wish.

Click Here To View Our Full Range Of Summer Stickers

Click Here To View Our Full Range Of Sassafras Lass Papers

Of course, the quote also assists in creating my summer scrapbooking theme. It reads:
Wherever you go – no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.

Materials Used: Turquoise Bazzill cardstock, Sassafras Lass Sew Fine Henrietta Paper, Sassafras Lass In Stitches Bubbly Paper, Sassafras Lass In Stitches Delight Paper, Sassafras Lass In Stitches Twiggy Paper, Doodlebug Pink Stripes paper, blue cardstock, blue ink, pink ink, pink glitter pen, a sun sticker and Bo Bunny Be Yourself Phrases stickers.

To recreate this summer scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the Turquoise Bazzill cardstock for your background.

2. Cut a piece measuring 14cm by 14.5cm from the bottom right corner of the Sassafras Lass Sew Fine Henrietta Paper. Ink the edges with blue ink and adhere to the right edge of your page, approximately 7.5cm from the bottom.

3. Cut two strips of Doodlebug Pink Stripes paper measuring approximately 14cm by 1cm. Ink the edges with pink ink. Adhere the first strip horizontally above the Henrietta paper, leaving a small gap between the two papers and the second strip below it, as shown in the layout above.

4. Cut out a circle from Sassafras Lass In Stitches Bubbly Paper. The diameter should be approximately 23cm. Trim off one edge, as shown in the summer scrapbooking layout above. Ink the edges with blue ink and adhere to the left side of your page.

5. Now it’s time to start doodling! Using a pink glitter pen, draw a border of dots around your circle. If you wish, you can hide a date or small piece of journaling among your dots as well.

NOTE: Doodling does not have to be complicated or difficult to add style and personality to your scrapbooking page. In fact, in this layout, drawing a simple border of dots around a central element was enough to give emphasis to my photo and add a little pizzazz to my page. If you are new to doodling, try something simple like this and before long you will be featuring it on all of your pages with confidence.

6. Cut a piece of Sassafras Lass In Stitches Twiggy Paper measuring approximately 7.5cm by 17cm. Ink the edges with blue ink. Adhere vertically in your circle a little left of centre.

7. Cut two pieces of Sassafras Lass In Stitches Delight Paper measuring approximately 5cm by 16cm. Ink the edges with blue ink. If you like, you can also outline the edges with your pink glitter pen. Adhere at an angle either side of the Twiggy paper from the previous step, as shown in the summer scrapbook page above.

8. Mat your photo with blue cardstock and adhere in the centre of your circle.

9. Place a sun sticker (or any other summer sticker) in the top left corner of your photo.

10. Finally, add a quote (or some journaling) in the bottom right corner of your page. My quote comes from Bo Bunny Be Yourself Phrases stickers.

And voila! A fun, happy summer scrapbooking layout! And best of all, it can be adapted to suit any summery photo you have in your ‘to scrap’ stash! You just new a few supplies to get started.

Colour Blocking is an effective and simple technique that can be used on any layout. And it’s even better when combined with stickers. I have used summer scrapbooking stickers on this layout to show you how to combine the two techniques. The mosaic of colour created on this page combined with a fresh geometric design creates a captivating layout when embellished with summer stickers.

This layout was created using five shades of Bazzill cardstock (pink, purple, aqua, green and yellow) and Doodlebug Summer Treats stickers.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the pink Bazzil cardstock as your background.

2. Mat two horizontal photos with yellow Bazzill cardstock, making sure the resulting mats measure 14.5cm by 9.5cm.

3. Now it is time to cut out 24 squares from your Bazzill cardstock. Each square should measure 4.5cm by 4.5cm. You will need 8 aqua squares, 8 purple squares, 6 green squares and 2 yellow squares.

4. Arrange your squares and photo mats on your background, as shown in the layout above. I suggest starting in the top left corner and working your way across and down from there. The spacing between each element should be approximately 0.5cm.

5. Place your ‘Summer’ sticker from Doodlebug Summer Treats stickers in the bottom right corner of your page, as shown above, to give your scrapbooking layout a title.

6. Finally, arrange your Summer Treats stickers around your page so that they overlap different squares and your photo mats. Use the layout above as a guide to how to place them around your page.

Lately I have been scrapping a lot of my photos from a trip my husband and I took to Coffs Harbour a few years ago and as a result, I have been playing around with all sorts of beach scrapbooking ideas. As with this layout, it is often a case of selecting the right colours, choosing the right stickers and letting the photos speak for themselves.

Click Here To View Our Full Range Of Beach Stickers

This layout was created using K&Company Blue Awning Green Floral Damask paper, KI Sand Linen paper, Foofala Brown Ivy paper, cream cardstock, light brown cardstock, green Bazzill cardstock, brown ink, a brown pen, Beary Patch Sand Alphabet stickers and Bo Bunny At The Beach stickers.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the K&Company Blue Awning Green Floral Damask paper as your background.

2. Tear a square of KI Sand Linen paper approximately 27cm by 27cm. Glue to the centre of your page.

3. Cut a stripe of Foofala Brown Ivy paper approximately 9cm wide. Ink the edges with brown ink and when dry, glue vertically to your page approximately 3.5cm from the right edge.

4. Mat two horizontal 4×6 photos and two horizontal 3×4 photos with cream cardstock. Arrange them on your layout, as shown above, with your most important 4×6 photo in the top right corner.

5. Cut a piece of cream cardstock measuring approximately 12cm by 4cm. Using a brown pen, write your journaling on this piece. Ink the edges with brown ink and when dry, glue in the space underneath your second 4×6 photo, as shown above. Make sure you leave room to add a sandcastle to the left of this piece.

6. Cut a piece of green Bazzill cardstock measuring approximately 3cm by 4cm. Ink the edges with brown ink. Place an alphabet sticker in the centre to make the first letter of the first word of your title. Glue vertically and at an angle in the top left corner of your page, as shown above.

7. Cut a strip of light brown cardstock measuring approximately 10cm by 3cm. Using alphabet stickers, write the remainder of the first word of your title. Ink the edges with brown ink and glue horizontally next to your green rectangle from the previous step.

8. Cut a second strip of light brown cardstock measuring approximately 11cm by 3cm. Using alphabet stickers, write the second word of your title. Ink the edges with brown ink and glue horizontally underneath the first word of your title, as shown above.

9. Finally, mat a sandcastle sticker from Bo Bunny At The Beach stickers with cream cardstock and glue in the bottom left corner next to your journaling block.

Stamping is one of my favourite methods for creating completely unique and interesting backgrounds for my scrapbooking layouts. In this layout, I have taken a plain piece of blue cardstock and turned it into a beach design. All it took was a stamp and two shade of brown ink. It’s a very effective technique that anyone can do. My husband even asked me where I got the cool paper!

This layout was created using blue Bazzill cardstock, Hot Off The Press Tan Mosaic paper, Creative Imaginations Art Warehouse paper, brown Bazzill cardstock, cream cardstock, brown ink, light brown ink, a blue flower, a large metallic green brad, a shell stamp and All My Memories Carefree stickers.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the blue Bazzill cardstock as your background. To jazz it up, use brown ink and a shell stamp (or other relevant stamp) to stamp images randomly around the cardstock. Don’t worry about covering the middle too much as it will be covered up later. Also, use your light brown ink to ink the edges, creating a sandy effect. Set aside to dry.

2. Cut a piece of Hot Off The Press Tan Mosaic paper measuring approximately 18cm by 28cm. Ink the edge with light brown ink. When dry, adhere vertically to the background along the bottom edge and approximately 1.8cm from the right edge.

3. Cut a piece of Creative Imaginations Art Warehouse paper measuring approximately 10cm by 29.3cm. Ink the edge with light brown ink. When dry, adhere vertically to the background along the bottom edge and approximately 1.8cm from the left edge.

4. Mat two vertical 4×6 photos with cream cardstock. Adhere the first approximately 3.8cm from the top edge and 6cm from the left edge. Adhere the second photo next to the first, approximately 3.8cm from the top edge and 3cm from the right edge.

5. Select a square sticker from All My Memories Carefree stickers. Place it towards the bottom right corner of your page, approximately 0.4cm from the right edge and 2.3cm from the bottom edge.

6. Cut out your title from brown Bazzill cardstock. Glue underneath your photos, as shown in the layout above.

7. Select a rectangular sticker from All My Memories Carefree stickers. I advise using the one with no writing, unless you don’t mind the writing being sideways. Place it vertically towards the top left corner of your page, approximately 0.6cm from the left edge and 2.6cm from the top edge. Make sure the flower on the sticker is in the top right corner.

8. Finally, embellish your rectangular sticker by using a metallic green brad to attach a blue flower on top of the flower pictured on the sticker.

Some scrapbooking ideas are easier to come up with than others. On this layout I wanted to challenge myself and show off these gorgeous photos from our honeymoon in Tahiti. But how do you create a stunning page without taking attention away from photos of paradise?

I chose an orange and brown colour scheme. I know these aren’t usually the first colours that come to mind when planning a page for predominantly blue photos. However, these colours compliment the blue really well and make it pop from the page (afterall, what represents the water better than sandy colours next to ocean blue?). The Stamping Station stickers were also perfect for the theme and my choice of colours.

Click Here To View Our Range Of Beach Stickers

This layout was created using Basic Grey Deidre Perhaps paper, It Takes Two Orange Fibre paper, Creative Imaginations Oak Squares paper, Creative Imaginations Sunlight Linen paper, Creative Imaginations Hydrangea Wash paper, KI Expecting Chic Plaid paper, white cardstock, light brown ink, dark brown ink, a brown pen and Stamping Station Ocean Global Chic stickers.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the Basic Grey Deidre Perhaps paper as your background. Lightly ink the edges with dark brown ink. Set aside to dry.

2. Cut a piece of It Takes Two Orange Fibre paper measuring approximately 23cm by 19cm. Generously ink the edges with light brown ink and then lightly ink the edges with dark brown ink. When dry, glue horizontally to your page along the right edge and approximately 5.5cm from the bottom edge.

3. Cut a piece of Creative Imaginations Oak Squares paper measuring approximately 12cm by 11.5cm. Ink the edges with dark brown ink. When dry, glue to your page approximately 3cm from the left edge and 4.5cm from the bottom edge.

4. Mat your main photo with white cardstock. Mat again with Creative Imaginations Sunlight Linen paper. Generously ink the edges with light brown ink and then lightly ink the edges with dark brown ink. When dry, mat again with Creative Imaginations Hydrangea Wash paper. And again, generously ink the edges with light brown ink and then lightly ink the edges with dark brown ink. Set aside to dry.

5. Cut a piece of KI Expecting Chic Plaid paper measuring approximately 4.5cm by 1.5cm. Cut off the top two corners, as shown above, to create a tab shape. Ink the edges with dark brown ink. When dry, use a brown pen to draw a stitch-like border around your tab.

6. Position your main photo towards the top right corner of your page, approximately 1cm from the right edge and 3cm from the top edge. Before it is fully glued down, slide your tab partly underneath the right side of the top edge, as shown in the layout above.

7. If you wish, add a comment or date to you’re your tab using your brown pen.

8. Cut a piece of Creative Imaginations Hydrangea Wash paper measuring approximately 10cm by 4.5cm. Generously ink the edges with light brown ink and then lightly ink the edges with dark brown ink. Using a brown pen, draw a dashed line close to the top and bottom edges to give a stitched appearance. Glue horizontally to your page so that it is up against the right edge and approximately 6.5cm from the bottom edge (it will be on top of your orange paper).

9. Mat your remaining two photos with white cardstock. Glue the larger of the two approximately 7.5cm from the left edge and 1.8cm from the bottom edge. Glue your second, smaller photo approximately 1.3cm from the left edge and 9.5cm from the bottom edge. It will overlap with the previous photo.

10. Cut a tag measuring approximately 4.5cm by 7cm from Creative Imaginations Hydrangea Wash paper. Generously ink the edges with light brown ink and then lightly ink the edges with dark brown ink. Using a brown pen, draw a dashed line border to give a stitch effect. Glue at an angle in the bottom left corner of your page. If you like, you can use a brad to attach it (I have simply drawn a small circle near the top of the tag).

11. Place a circular fish sticker in the middle of your tag.

12. Select the rest of the stickers you would like to use and place them around your page, as shown in the layout above.

The successful combination of beach scrapbooking stickers and co-ordinating patterned papers is central to the effectiveness of this layout. However, even with the most perfect combinations, a page can sometimes feel flat and dull. To alleviate this, I have used an easy paper tearing technique that adds depth to my page and gives it an interesting texture.

This layout was created using Daisy D’s Snow Plaid Winter Blue paper, Sandylion Travel Sand paper, Renae Lindgren Light Blue Squiggles paper, Daisy D’s Buttercream Gingham paper and Bo Bunny At The Beach stickers.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the Daisy D’s Snow Plaid Winter Blue paper as your background. If you do not have this paper, any ocean blue paper will do. Use the beach border sticker as your guide for finding the right shade of blue.

2. Adhere your beach border sticker along the bottom edge of your page.

3. Take your Sandylion Travel Sand paper (or a similar design) and tear three ‘mounds.’ The first is for the top left-hand corner. It should be quite long and narrow, like in the layout above. The second is for the middle of your page on the right. It should be more than 6 inches long and reasonably fat. The third is for the bottom left and should be significantly smaller than the others. See the layout above for a clearer indication of size and shape.

PLEASE NOTE: To obtain a white edge around your sand paper when tearing, tear the paper slowly towards you.

4. Glue your ‘sand mounds’ in place.

5. Mat your photos with Daisy D’s Buttercream Gingham paper (or another light yellow paper). Mat again with Renae Lindgren Light Blue Squiggles paper (or another light blue paper).

6. Glue your photos to your page at an angle, as shown in the layout above.

7. Place the sticker of the girl in the bottom left corner of your left photo so that she is sitting on the mound of sand.

8. Place the sticker of the boy with a shell to his ear in the top right corner of the right photo, also so he is sitting on a mound of sand.

9. Place the sticker of the boy with the starfish in the centre of the page, creating a diagonal line between the other two children. This brings a sense of unity to the page.

10. Place the title sticker across the top sand mound. Decorate with a large starfish sticker.

11. Finally, decorate the rest of your page with the remaining beach scrapbooking stickers. Pay attention to where you place them – they can make or break your page. Try to create a balanced feel to your page.

What do you think? Do you like this beach scrapbooking idea? Do you have any questions? Would you have done anything different? We’d love to hear from you! Please leave a comment below.
