Scrapbooking Altered Items

By Chris 'Bearicute'

If you are looking for a meaningful gift for that someone special, then here it is! This stunning altered box was made by Chris for her daughter. It conveys how much she loves her daughter and no doubt will always be treasured by her daughter.

To create this, you will need a wooden box, paper and embellishments to suit your theme, sealer and paints such as those by Jo Sonya.

Begin by painting your box the desired colours. Leave until dry. If you want an aged effect, first paint with a light colour such as white or cream. When dry, paint again with a darker colour. When dry, lightly sand the box so you can see the lighter paint in patches or streaks.

Measure the sides of your box and cut your paper to fit. Adhere it and smooth the edges down. Apply two coats of sealer before adding embellishments. Make sure you leave plenty of time to dry between each coat. And dont forget, you can decorate the underside of the lid as well.

Once you are finished decorating your box, consider what to place inside. You may wish to fill your box with various pieces of memorabilia, toys, chocolates and other gifts, or you may choose to do what Chris has done and make the contents herself. In this case, she has made a tag booklet and journal, among other things.

THE TAG BOOKLET

To create a '10 Things We Love About You' tag book, cut 11 tags - ten for your reasons and one for your cover. Make sure you make them small enough to fit inside your box. Decorate your tags and add any personal notes you wish. Place an eyelet in the top of each tag. Thread your ribbons and fibres through the eyelets in each tag to join them together.

A journal is a great item to add to your box or give as an accessory. Chris has covered the covers (inside and out) of this notebook to make a beautiful journal for her daughter. The papers and colours use compliment those from the box. The two items together make an absolutely gorgeous gift.
