Birthday Wishes Scrapbooking Idea

Birthday celebrations are often the source of very special memories and wonderful photos. And, they are a great subject for your scrapbooking layouts. Today’s layout shows you how to take a simple sheet of birthday stickers and create a beautiful page for your precious birthday memories.

To create this page, I used sketch #128 from my collection of 500 Scrapbooking Sketches. Please note that I have made this page to feature photos from a young girl’s birthday celebrations, but the colours could be easily changed to suit anyone.

Materials Used: Scrapbooking papers by Provo Craft, white cardstock, alphabet stickers from Doodlebug, Diecuts With A View and Mrs Grossmans and Sandylion Birthday Icons Borders stickers.

This birthday layout is very easy to create. Begin by making your backdrop. To do this, you will need two pieces of co-ordinating paper. Use one as the base for your page. Cut the other at an angle, like that shown above, and glue to the bottom of your page.

Use the yellow and orange border sticker to cover the join between your two papers. This gives your page some character and is far more interesting than a straight edge. Please keep in mind though, that because it is at an angle, it will not stretch the whole way across your page. As a result, you need to cut it in a place that will be eventually covered by one of your photos. This will enable you to leave a gap between the two pieces (behind one of your photos) so that it looks like it goes all the way across.

Now that you have your background, it’s on to the photo mats. These are very easy to make too. First, mat two vertical 4×6 photos with white cardstock. Mat again with pink paper, but this time, leave a gap at the bottom of the photo mat. This is so you can stick your streamer border sticker across the bottom of each photo mat to give a festive look to your page.

How you create your title is up to you. I used a selection of letter stickers of different sizes, fonts and colours. If they were white, I also matted them with pink paper so they wouldn’t get lost against the background. I also added two small birthday stickers to add interest to my title.

Finally, I arranged a small selection of birthday stickers in the bottom right corner of my page to add interest and give balance to my design. If you wish, you could also add some journaling here.

Oh, and for one last touch, I added a birthday balloon sticker between my two photos. And then it was done. In very little time, I had a fun and festive birthday scrapbooking page. And all it took was some fun papers, a scrapbooking sketch for guidance and some cute birthday stickers.

Magic Of Christmas Scrapbooking Idea

With Christmas just two weeks away, I’ve really been getting into my Christmas crafts. As I mentioned last week, one thing I like to make at this time of year is Christmas scrapbooking layouts for the Christmas celebrations ahead.

Pre-making my Christmas layouts gives me the opportunity to immerse myself in this year’s festivities without having to have all my photos ready and waiting to be scrapped. And, in the new year, I can just print out my pictures and stick them straight onto my pre-made pages. I can have my Christmas memories scrapped before the back to school season even starts!

Of course, I have a million things going all at once at this time of year (tomorrow I’m testing a new recipe that I want to make for Christmas) so quick layouts are essential. Subsequently, for today’s page, I once again turned to my collection of 500 Scrapbooking Sketches. It’s the best way I’ve found for creating pages quickly and easily while still being able to infuse my creations with my own personal style.

I created this layout in under an hour using Sketch #50 from my collection of 500 Scrapbooking Sketches.

Materials Used: Green Bazzill cardstock, Sweetwater scrapbooking papers, cream cardstock, Bo Bunny Christmas stickers, green alphabet stickers and brown ink.

I made this page to showcase one special 4×6 photo. I followed the sketch exactly. It was a super-easy page to make, but I love how it turned out, especially with the stripes. Stripes are extremely versatile. As you can see, in this page, I used horizontal stripes at the side of my page. I then used the same striped paper to create my vertical stripe accent next to my photo. So simple!

My title was very simple too. I used two stickers by Bo Bunny – one that reads ‘Magic’ and another that reads ‘Christmas’. I then joined them with two little alphabet stickers that read ‘of’ to give me my title, ‘Magic Of Christmas’. You could easily create something similar with any phrase or word stickers you have lying around…or create you own title with alphabet stickers, rub-ons, cut-outs or stamps.

And, of course, since it’s a sketch, you just need to change the colours, patterns and words to create an entirely new page. In fact, I’m thinking of creating another layout just like it, but upside down.

Try playing around with the design and see what you can create. The possibilities are endless. And, this is only from one sketch! There are another 499 sketches in my collection!

Quick Christmas Scrapbooking Idea

The Christmas season is well and truly upon us. It’s a great time to organise some Christmas craft activities with your kids and your crafty friends. Personally, I love to use this time of year to make Christmas cards, catch up on any of the Christmas scrapbook pages I didn’t get around to making last year and pre-make some pages for this year’s photos. It’s the perfect way to remember last year’s special moments and get into the Christmas spirit for the festivities ahead.

It is a very busy time of year though. There’s always something happening and it isn’t always easy to squeeze in some craft time. As a result, I look for quick Christmas scrapbooking ideas that I can whip up in less than an hour. For this, I always turn to my collection of 500 Scrapbooking Sketches. They always help me get started (I don’t have time to procrastinate!) and, because they give me a plan to follow, I don’t have to waste time agonising over what to do.

I created this layout in under an hour using Sketch #318 from my collection of 500 Scrapbooking Sketches.

Materials Used: Cream cardstock, Magenta scrapbooking papers, Patchwork scrapbooking papers, Provo Craft Christmas sticker and Paper Pizzazz Tag Alphabet.

This is one of the pages I have pre-made for this year’s photos. I have made it to feature two 4×6 photos. The original sketch also had space in the bottom right corner for a smaller photo, but I decided to replace it with a sweet Christmas poinsettia sticker from Provo Craft. I thought it made a nice embellishment that complemented my colour scheme.

The sketch was very easy to follow. There aren’t many elements but they combine beautifully for a well-balanced page. And the best thing is, I can re-use the design as much as I like. If I change the colour scheme and the patterns, I will have a completely fresh design.

I also found that I saved a lot of time with this page by using two papers from the same paper collection. Scrapbooking manufacturers often release a collection of three, four or even more papers that all co-ordinate and can be mixed and matched with each other. By using papers designed to go together, you don’t have to take additional time going through your own stash trying to figure out which papers work with which – it’s already been done for you. It makes things so much easier and quicker!

I hope you like this design and will adapt it to your own Christmas scrapbooking projects. I’d love to see what you come up with!

Time Saving Tips For Scrapbooking

Finding time to devote to your scrapbooking albums can be a struggle, even for the most devoted scrapper. We all get caught up in the whirlwind of life. There’s always something to take attention away from our craft. So, when we finally do find time to scrap, it is important to make the most of that time. The more pages we can finish (and be proud of) the better, right?

It is possible to achieve more in the time we have to scrap. All we need to do is shift our approach to scrapping just a little and employ a few very simple techniques. Give them a try and you are sure to be creating layouts faster and with ease.

1. Be organised! The biggest time saving tip that I can give you is to keep your scrapbooking supplies in some kind of order. How you organise your supplies is up to you but make sure you know where all your supplies are and that they are all easily accessible. That way you don’t have to go searching through everything every time you scrap. Plus, it will be a quick and easy clean up after each project so you are not confronted with a big mess next time you sit down to scrap.

Different systems work for different people. Personally, I organise my supplies by type (eg paper in one place, stickers in another, ribbon in another etc) and then by colour. Find the method of organisation that suits your scrapbooking style.

2. Use multiple photos. I know that pages featuring one photo can look simply stunning and are a lot of fun to make. But, if you ensure a majority of your pages include more than one photo you will move through your photos much faster and maybe even finish off some of those albums sitting on your shelf. With more photos on the page you will also find each layout takes less time to embellish as you simply don’t have as much space leftover to embellish.

3. Use pre-made alphabets. Whether they be alphabet stickers, rub-ons or die-cuts, pre-made alphabets can save you enormous amounts of time by making your titles quick and simple to assemble. Stamping or even cutting out your own letters can be very effective but quite time-consuming. If you use a lot of letters you may like to consider purchasing a personal die-cutting machine like a Sizzix or a Cricut and several alphabet dies.

4. Use scrapbooking sketches. Sketches give you easy to follow templates that can be applied to any type of layout. They take the guesswork out of planning your pages and can be huge time savers. Consider investing in a copy of my 500 Scrapbooking Sketches collection so you always have ideas to refer to.

5. Finally, don’t be a perfectionist. Scrapbooking is not about creating the perfect page design. It’s about treasuring the important memories in your life and being able to re-live them and share them with others for many years to come.

School Stickers

School plays such a big part in our lives and that of our kids (afterall, most of us are at school for 13 years!) so why not preserve those precious school day memories in your scrapbook albums? Whether it’s photos of your kids in their school uniforms, with their school friends or even nervously walking through the gates on their first day, school stickers are the perfect embellishment to help you record those special moments!

In this layout, I have combined a fun blackboard-like paper, primary colours and Autumn Leaves school stickers to create a cheerful School Memories layout. I have also used a sketch (sketch #220) from my collection of 500 Scrapbooking Sketches to help me with my design.

Materials Used: White Bazzill cardstock, It Takes Two Black paper, red cardstock, light yellow Bazzill cardstock, Hot Off The Press Red border, Autumn Leaves Fun Times At School Stickers and Autumn Leaves Learn At School stickers.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the White Bazzill cardstock as your background.

2. Cut a piece of black paper measuring 28.5cm by 28.5cm. Glue in the centre of your page.

3. Cut a piece of White Bazzill cardstock measuring 30.5cm by 7cm.

4. Mat your white cardstock from Step #3 with light yellow Bazzill cardstock. However, your white cardstock is already the same width as your page, so you only want to create a yellow edge along the top and bottom.

The top edge should be a thin straight edge, no more than 5mm wide. The bottom edge should be more decorative. I have chosen to cut a zig zag edge approximately 1cm wide for my bottom edge, but you can cut whatever shape you wish.

5. Glue your matted white cardstock across your page approximately 7cm from the bottom edge.

6. Cut another piece of White Bazzill cardstock measuring 13cm by 7cm. Mat with light yellow Bazzill cardstock. But again, you only want a yellow edge approximately 5mm wide along the top and bottom edges.

7. Glue your piece from Step #6 horizontally to your page approximately 4.2cm from the top edge and right up against the right edge.

8. Mat a horizontal 4×6 photo with white Bazzill cardstock and again with red cardstock. Glue to your page approximately 2cm from the right edge and 2.5cm from the top edge. There should not be a gap between it and the piece you glued on in Step #7.

9. Place an apple school sticker in the top left corner of the piece you glued on in Step #7.

10. Cut a piece of Hot Off The Press Red border (or any patterned paper) measuring approximately 7.5cm by 1cm. If you wish, slightly round the top left corner. Glue horizontally to the piece you glued on in Step #7 so that it is right up against the right edge and about 5mm above the bottom white edge of this piece.

11. Add your journaling in the remaining space of the piece you added in Step #7.

12. Cut another piece of Hot Off The Press Red border (or any patterned paper) measuring approximately 18cm by 1cm. Glue horizontally across your page so that it is approximately 4cm from the bottom edge and up against the left edge.

13. Mat a vertical photo (you will need to crop this one down so it isn’t so tall) with white Bazzill cardstock and again with red cardstock. Glue to your page approximately 2cm from the right edge and 1.7cm from the bottom edge.

14. Place a school bus sticker above your photo from Step #13, as shown above. You may wish to mat it on white cardstock first to give it dimension and help it stand out.

15. You should now have a large white section available next to your second photo. Use this space to add your title and extra school stickers.

I have used the stickers ‘School’ and ‘Memories’ to create my title. I have then embellished them with adorable school pencil stickers and a school house sticker. But, your choice of school stickers is completely up to you.

And there you have it. I fun, cheerful layout embellished with school stickers. Perfect for recording those treasured school memories!

Baby Scrapbooking Idea

Since we have so many new baby stickers this week, I thought I would share with you a baby scrapbooking idea I created using one of the sketches from my collection of 500 Scrapbooking Sketches.

I love using sketches to create my layouts. Whether I’m creating a baby scrapbooking idea or something completely different, sketches always help me design my page and focus in on what it is I really want to create. It takes out all the uncertainty and since I’m not stressed about how my page will look, I have so much more fun.

This cute baby scrapbooking idea was created using sketch #3.

Materials Used: Pixie Press Floral paper, Making Memories Pink Plaid paper, light yellow cardstock, pink cardstock, brown cardstock, brown ink, a brown pen Beary Patch Baby Girl stickers and Sandylion Glitter Tinkerbell Rub-Ons (for the title).

To recreate this baby scrapbooking idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the Pixie Press Floral as your background. Ink the edges with brown ink and set aside to dry.

Of course, if you wish to create a baby boy scrapbooking idea instead of a baby girl idea, you will want to change the paper from a pink floral to something else. Perhaps something blue, green or orange.

2. Cut a piece of Making Memories Pink Plaid paper measuring 33cm by 31.5cm. Tear along the bottom edge for extra interest.

3. Using a brown pen, draw a dashed border around the top, left and right edges (not the bottom edge) of your pink plaid paper from Step #2. Also, ink the edges with brown ink.

This effect is perfect for a baby scrapbooking idea as it softens the page and creates a heart-warming feeling.

4. When your pink plaid paper is dry, make a small tear along the top edge approximately 5cm from the left corner. Fold down each side to create triangles (it looks a little like a collar), as shown above. Lightly ink the triangles for a more aged look.

5. Make a second small tear on the right edge of your pink plaid paper approximately 5.5cm from the bottom corner. As in step #4, fold down each side to create triangles, as shown above. Lightly ink the triangles for a more aged look.

6. Glue your pink plaid paper to your page approximately 4cm from the top edge and 3.8cm from the left edge.

7. Cut a piece of brown cardstock measuring approximately 18.5cm by 13cm. Tear along all the edges for a softer look for your baby scrapbooking idea.

8. Mat a horizontal 4×6 photo with light yellow cardstock and again with pink cardstock. Glue in the centre of your brown cardstock from the previous step.

9. Position an “Am I Cute Or What?” rub-on from Sandylion Glitter Tinkerbell Rub-Ons above your photo, as shown above. I know strictly speaking, these rub-ons were not intended for baby scrapbooking ideas, but I thought it suited it perfectly!

10. Finally, decorate your page with baby stickers of your choice. Place them around your photo on your pink plaid paper, as shown above. For a balanced effect, place your largest sticker in the bottom left corner of your pink plaid paper and the second biggest in the top right corner.

Also note, if you wish, there is space for journaling below your photo.

This baby scrapbooking idea is simple and quick to create thanks to the sketch that I started with. I always love quick layouts. Any page that is fast but still looks fantastic is a real blessing as it leaves you time to catch up on all your other to-be-scrapped photos (and, if you’re like me, there are plenty of those!).

I started using sketches because I would agonise over my pages trying to get them just right. I wasted so much time and worry that I hardly got any scrapping done. Sketches really did change all of that for me and I have enjoyed scrapping much more ever since.

Scrapbooking Kids

I love scrapbooking kids photos. They always give me an excuse to use the cutest scrapbooking stickers like the new Sweet Dreams stickers from Sandylion. And for this layout I also used one of my own scrapbooking sketches from 500 Scrapbooking Sketches.

This layout was created using blue Bazzill cardstock, Junkitz Pastel Madras paper, Provo Craft Purple Swirls paper, Creative Imaginations Hydrangea Wash paper, blue cardstock, white cardstock, blue ink, purple ink, Doodlebug White Alphabet stickers and Sandylion Sweet Dreams stickers.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the blue Bazzill cardstock as your background.

2. Cut a piece of Junkitz Pastel Madras paper measuring 23.5cm by 30.5cm. Ink around the edges with blue ink and when dry, glue horizontally across your page approximately 1.5cm from the bottom edge.

3. Cut a piece of Creative Imaginations Hydrangea Wash paper measuring 5cm by 7.5cm. Ink around the edges with blue ink and when dry, glue vertically to your page approximately 12.5cm from the left edge and 3cm from the bottom edge.

4. Cut a square of Provo Craft Purple Swirls paper measuring 21cm by 21cm. Ink around the edges with purple ink and when dry, glue towards the top right corner of your page. It should be about 1.2cm from the right edge and 1.6cm from the top edge.

5. Cut a second piece of Creative Imaginations Hydrangea Wash paper measuring 5cm by 7.5cm. Ink around the edges with blue ink and when dry, glue vertically to your page approximately 11cm from the right edge and 0.7cm from the top edge. Place your ‘zzzz’ sticker from Sandylion Sweet Dreams stickers across the top of this piece, as shown in the scrapbooking layout above.

6. Mat a horizontal 4×6 photo with blue cardstock (this should be your primary photo). Glue towards the top left corner of your page, approximately 3cm from the left and top edges.

7. Place a moon and star sticker from Sandylion Sweet Dreams stickers next to the top left corner of your photo from the previous step. Also place your alarm clock sticker and another star sticker above your photo, as shown above.

8. Crop a second horizontal 4×6 photo down to about 4×5. Mat with blue cardstock. Glue towards the bottom right corner of your page, approximately 1.7cm from the right edge and 4.4cm from the bottom edge.

9. Place a teddy bear sticker towards the bottom right corner of your second photo.

10. Place your child in bed sticker from Sandylion Sweet Dreams stickers in the bottom left corner of your Purple Swirls paper, as shown above.

11. Place your three sheep stickers from Sandylion Sweet Dreams stickers in a row in the top right corner of your Purple Swirls paper.

12. Cut out the first letter of your title from white cardstock and glue in the space below your three sheep stickers from the previous step. Finish off your title with white alphabet stickers (mine are from Doodlebug Designs). Place your remaining star stickers around your title for extra embellishment.

13. Finally, place your ‘Sweet Dreams’ sticker from Sandylion Sweet Dreams stickers on white cardstock and cut out around the edges of the sticker. Ink the edges with blue ink and when dry, glue in the bottom left corner of your scrapbooking page.

Scrapbook Sketch

A scrapbook sketch came to my rescue this week! I was feeling totally uninspired and to be honest, in a bit of a rush. So I turned to my faithful copy of 500 Scrapbooking Sketches and chose a Sketch #6 from page #12 to play with. And I love the results! What do you think? This layout was created using Autumn Leaves Legend Paper, Autumn Leaves Floral Burst Paper, two shades of green cardstock, two shades of brown cardstock, white cardstock, green ric rac, light brown ink, a brown pen, NRN Burgundy Alphabet stickers and Hot Off The Press Green Alphabet.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the Autumn Leaves Legend Paper as your background.

2. Cut a piece of Autumn Leaves Floral Burst Paper measuring 25.5cm by 17.5cm. Mat with your darkest shade of green cardstock and glue at an angle to your background, as shown above. The bottom left corner should be about 4cm from the left edge and 5cm from the bottom edge.

3. Mat a horizontal 5×7 photo with your light green cardstock. Glue in the centre of your Autumn Leaves Floral Burst Paper. For the best effect, make sure your photo is parallel to the bottom edge of your page.

4. Glue a strip of green ric rac horizontally across your page approximately 11.5cm from the bottom edge. It should go across the bottom of your photo, as shown above.

5. Using your Hot Off The Press Green Alphabet, add the second half of your title just above your photo, as shown above. If you don’t have this specific alphabet, any square alphabet will do.

6. Cut the first letter of your title from light bright cardstock. Mat with dark brown cardstock and glue in the top left corner of your page.

7. Finish your title with NRN Burgundy Alphabet stickers or any other co-ordinating alphabet stickers.

8. Cut six strips of white cardstock. They should all be 1cm tall and varying in length. Add your journaling to each strip using a brown pen. When dry, ink around the edges with light brown ink. You may also like to smudge the ink across each strip to give a more textured appearance. When dry, glue in the bottom right corner of your page, as shown above.

Scrapbooking Ideas With Sketches

This week I wanted to share with you a scrapbooking idea that anyone with any level of experience could create and that could be adapted to suit any theme, any colours and any photos. So, I selected a sketch from my 500 Scrapbooking Sketches book and created this layout. I used photos from our trip to Coffs Harbour, but the same page design could literally be used for anything at all. Just switch the patterned papers and colours to ones you like and replace the dolphins with something more appropriate to your theme.

This layout was created using Autumn Leaves Blue Circles paper, Sandylion Light Blue Floral paper, Sassafras Lass Dreamy Dandy paper, Sassafras Lass Dreamy Tingle paper, Blue Plaid paper, white Bazzill cardstock, green Bazzill cardstock, a brown pen, a collection of miscellaneous alphabet stickers and Stickopotamus Shiny Sea Animals stickers.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the purple Autumn Leaves Blue Circles paper as your background.

2. Cut a piece of Sandylion Light Blue Floral paper measuring approximately 6cm by 30.5cm. Glue it vertically down the left side of your page so it is right up against the left edge.

3. Cut a piece of Sassafras Lass Dreamy Dandy paper measuring approximately 10.4cm by 6cm. Glue it horizontally along the top edge approximately 5.6cm from the left edge.

4. Cut a piece of white Bazzill cardstock measuring approximately 22.8cm by 25.5cm. Glue it along the bottom edge of your page approximately 5.6cm from the left edge.

5. Glue a horizontal 4×6 photo in the top left corner of your white Bazzill cardstock leaving approximately 0.4cm of white showing around it.

6. Cut out three photos each measuring 6.5cm wide by 6cm tall. Arrange them one above the other down the right side of your white cardstock, as shown in the layout above. There should be approximately 0.4cm gap between each one.

7. Cut a piece of green Bazzill cardstock measuring approximately 10cm by 14.2cm. Using a brown pen, add your journaling to this piece. Cut a strip of Blue Plaid paper approximately 1cm tall. Glue horizontally across the bottom of your journaling block, approximately 1.1cm from the bottom edge. Add two small blue bubble stickers in the bottom right corner, as shown above. Glue your journaling block to your page in the space below your 4×6 photo.

8. Cut a piece of Sassafras Lass Dreamy Dandy paper measuring approximately 11.6cm by 5.6cm. Glue it horizontally in the bottom right corner of your white Bazzill cardstock leaving approximately 0.4cm of white showing around it.

9. Using a collection of different alphabet stickers, write your title on top of the Dreamy Dandy paper you just placed in the bottom right corner of your page.

10. Cut a piece of Dreamy Tingle paper measuring approximately 4.7cm by 8.2cm. Glue it vertically in the space left on your white cardstock, as shown above.

11. Finally, add a dolphin sticker in the top left corner of your page and half way day the right side of your page.

Scrapbooking With Sketches

It’s not often that I get to scrap with pink, so I loved creating this page. These tulips were a gift from James (my husband and co-owner of Stickers ‘N’ Fun) and I just thought they were so beautiful they needed to be scrapped. I chose a clean, simple design from my 500 Scrapbooking Sketches book to keep the focus on my photos. If you like it, please leave a comment for me in the comments box below.

This layout was created using purple Bazzill cardstock, Autumn Leaves Paper Ribbons paper, white cardstock, small purple alphabet stickers, Suzy’s Zoo Easter Joy stickers, Bo Bunny White Shabby Random Phrases stickers and Doodlebug Designs Love Spell stickers.

To recreate this scrapbook page idea, follow these steps:

1. Use the purple Bazzill cardstock as your background.

2. Cut a piece of Autumn Leaves Paper Ribbons paper measuring approximately 25.74cm by 23.2cm. Using a pencil, lightly mark the spot 10.5cm up from the bottom right corner and the spot 10.5cm left of the bottom right corner. Cut a straight line between these two points so you now have a triangle.

3. Glue your triangle in the bottom right corner of your page.

4. Glue your remaining piece of Paper Ribbons paper up against the left edge of your page and approximately 4.3cm from the bottom edge.

5. Use Bo Bunny White Shabby Random Phrases stickers to create a collage of words on a diagonal line between your two pieces of Paper Ribbons paper, as shown above. Keep in mind that a section of these words will be covered later with your photo.

6. Mat two vertical photos and one horizontal photo with white cardstock. Position them on your page as shown above and glue down.

7. Mat the ‘love’ sticker from Doodlebug Designs Love Spell stickers with white cardstock and glue in the top left corner of your page as part of your title. Finish off your title with small purple alphabet stickers. If you wish, you can add journaling around your page with these same alphabet stickers. For example, I have written ‘From James’ underneath the photo of the single tulip and the date in the space above my horizontal photo.

8. Add a small heart sticker from Doodlebug Designs Love Spell stickers to the right of your title and a heart outline sticker somewhere down the right side of your page.

9. Finally, place a sticker (in my case, a mouse with a tulip) in the bottom right corner of your page.
